Coaching During Cancer Treatment
How to exercise, stay well and move safely during cancer treatment
During Cancer Treatment
I’m currently in active cancer treatment and want to keep exercising but I’m going through chemotherapy, radiotherapy or I’ve recently had surgery. I want to stay strong and active but I don’t know what I’m allowed to do or how hard to push. I need help after surgery as I’ve lost range of movement and feel weak. I have side effects from my treatment so I need a flexible programme that fits around appointments.

“During cancer treatment, exercise can play a powerful role in helping you feel stronger, more capable and more in control at a time when so much feels uncertain. Research shows that appropriate physical activity can help reduce treatment-related fatigue, maintain muscle mass and strength, improve physical function, support mental wellbeing and enhance quality of life. It can also help you tolerate treatment better and recover more effectively between cycles. Importantly, exercise during treatment isn't about pushing harder or achieving personal bests – it's about using movement as a tool to support your body, preserve your strength and independence, and help you navigate treatment with greater confidence.”
Exercise is one of the most effective ways to support your body during cancer treatment. Research shows that regular physical activity can reduce cancer-related fatigue by up to 30%, improve energy levels, maintain muscle mass and strength, and enhance physical function throughout treatment. It has also been shown to improve mood, self-confidence and overall quality of life, helping you feel more capable and in control during a challenging time. While exercise isn't a replacement for treatment, studies suggest that staying active may help some people tolerate treatment better, experience fewer side effects and recover more effectively between cycles. The goal isn't to do more – it's to keep moving in a way that helps you stay as strong, resilient and independent as possible.
“The exercises were tailored to my needs. Safe. And manageable !”
CANCERCOACH.ME CLIENT
Cancer coaching: what to expect
Let’s start with a free 30 minute chat to see if we’re a good fit. If you decide that cancer coaching is for you, you’ll complete an extensive health and lifestyle questionnaire before our first consultation.
Our first cancer exercise session is a 60 minute informal chat. From which I will understand more about who you are and what your life looks like - now and before you were diagnosed with cancer. How does exercise, nutrition and wellbeing fit in? How are you feeling? What are you currently struggling with? We’ll agree realistic timings, goals and homework.
After each session, I will share notes, videos and online programming. Normally, we meet every 3-4 weeks online, with lots of contact in between.
Outside our regular video calls, I will follow your fitness progress closely via whichever online platform or training app we agree on.
We will chat regularly on whatsapp, phone or email. I am a real human (!), a cancer survivor and a cancer exercise specialist, with a passion for helping you. I’m here to answer all your questions, feedback or worries.
Your cancer exercise programme will be designed around what exercise YOU enjoy and what time you have available. It will be adapted to your side effects, treatment stage, lifestyle and your goals. It’s flexible and adaptable.
It’s a completely tailor-made exercise and wellness programme, just for YOU.
FAQs
-
Yes, it’s possible to split the payment for cancer fitness coaching into 3 equal blocks, payable over the first 3 months. Just contact me and let me know if that’s what you would prefer.
-
Yes, if life or cancer treatment get in the way of sticking to an exercise programme, it’s absolutely possible to pause coaching. A package of 6 sessions is normally over 6 to 9 months, which gives us some room to pause and flex as needed.
-
That depends on what you mean! Your programme will be 100% tailormade to you, your body, your lifestyle, your available time - and what you enjoy. It will be designed so that you CAN do it :) … if you’re not sure about your technique for a particular exercise, I am on hand to watch you on video and offer corrections, suggestions or an alternative exercise. If you can’t do the exercise because life gets in the way - that’s life - no problem. But my job is to encourage you and hold you accountable!
-
I am not a registered dietician or clinical nutritionist so I cannot provide menu plans or discuss supplements or ‘food as medicine’. I am very clear to stay in my lane. However, I have a nutrition diploma and I can help you set goals, review what you eat and stay on track with realistic and achievable weight loss. It is possible to lose weight after cancer treatment - even on hormone therapy - with the right combination of exercise, nutrition and lifestyle choices including sleep and stress reduction.

No, sorry! :)

Absolutely! Buying cancer exercise coaching for a loved one who is going through or who has been through cancer is a lovely idea. You can either choose a whole package or I can offer a one-off coaching session with an intro exercise plan. Get in touch to discuss options and prices.

The idea is to do 6 sessions over 6 months, which will arm you with the knowledge, experience and power you need to fly free and carry on exercising on your own.
However, I understand that this is a big commitment and I also offer one off coaching sessions with an intro exercise programme. Get in touch for more info.
