Aesthetic flat closure (AFC) for breast cancer. Before surgery.

Why did I choose aesthetic flat closure for my breast cancer surgery, with no reconstruction?

A number of reasons, which were important to me. But aesthetics - how I look - wasn’t one of them. I was so flat chested before surgery that having no breasts really doesn’t make much difference to how I look.

For me, I wanted to be symmetrical more than I wanted to have breasts, so I chose a double mastectomy.

I chose no reconstruction and to stay flat.

I wanted to do everything in my power to prevent my cancer returning. The mama bear in me is strong and I would do anything to see my babies grow up.

I also wanted the simplest, quickest surgery to recover from, with no risk of impacting my sports or my strength.

Everyone’s reasons are different. Everyone’s options are different. Mine was definitely the right choice for me. No regrets!
